Patel 1 Darpan Patel English 101 July 16, 2007 My BMW and I I always dreamed of waking up on my sixteenth birthday to see a shiny new car in my driveway. By the time I turned fifteen and held my driver’s permit in my hand, however, my mindset changed. I decided that I would drive any car that I could call my own. I was lucky, though. I did not just get any car; I got the best car in the world. My dad flew to Goa in India, New Delhi to pick up my “new” car. It was my grandfather’s 1989 BMW. I remembered the times I spent in that car while I was growing up in Goa. I rode in the backseat on the way to the beach while my wavy hair blew out the window. My grandpa lived less than a mile from the beach, and we used to drive there to feed the seagulls pieces of macaroni. I remembered the red interior and the smell of the salt water as I thought of the car. As soon as my dad pulled into the driveway after the 1000-mile trip, I knew something. I knew that this car would become my life. I was right, it was my BMW, and it was my life. The BMW was hardly in good shape. All of the imperfections, however,
