Introduction of companyTesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. opened its first store in Malaysia in May 2002 withthe opening of its first hypermarket in Puchong, Selangor. Currently, Tesco Malaysiaoperates several stores which are located in Selangor, Perak, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang,Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and Kelantan. Tesco partnered with local conglomerateSime Darby Berhad. Tesco also acquired the Malaysian operation of the wholesaler Makro,which was rebranded Tesco Extra and provides products for local retailers. Tesco wasfounded in 2000 and based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.Tesco is one of the world’s leading multi-channel retailers with operations in 10countries. Half a million colleagues work to earn the lifetime loyalty of our customers and putour responsibilities to communities at the heart of what we do. The sheer diversity of ourbusiness means we look for a broad range of talent. And when we find it, we open it up to awhole world of possibilities.Our physical presence in Malaysia comes through a network of over 50hypermarkets, which are serviced by two state of the art distribution centres in Selangor andPerak. In total, our stores in Malaysia have a combined floor space of over 4 million squarefeet. Following the launch of Grocery Home Shopping in 2013, we grew our grocery homeshopping business in numbers of e-commerce channels. We offer a wide range of 3,000Tesco own brand products – 80% of which are produced by Malaysian SMEs.3
