Biology 105C Final Exam Review Final exam will be 100 points that are over topics from ALL the chapters covered in lecture this semester. HOWEVER, it WILL NOT be on every minute detail from each chapter. Below is a list of key concepts that you should study and understand. They are topics that are beneficial for every person to have at least some grasp of, and may help you make personal decisions in your life (i.e. voting for a particular politician with a certain stand on environmental issues; decisions about your own, or your family’s health care; etc…). Remember, just because you understand it, doesn’t mean you KNOW it. GOOD LUCK AND CALL OR EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS!!!! 1. Describe the scientific method. What are the steps involved? 2. Define biology. 3. Define: theory, hypothesis. Compare these two things. 4. Describe a gene. 5. Identify how we study human genetics. 6. Describe the basic function and location of the following organelles: nucleus, smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex, ribosomes, mitochondria, chloroplasts, lysosomes and plasma membrane. 7. Describe the genetic makeup of and the number of cells that result from mitosis and meiosis. 8. Identify where mitosis and meiosis occurs in humans. 9. Describe what makes a cell haploid or diploid. 10. List the phases, in order, of mitosis and describe the major events in each phase.
