In reading Rush Limbaugh’s essay, I found there are a few points I disagree on. In his essay he wrote about condoms and the conflict many people have with their distribution in schools. He also criticizes the sexual education programs of public schools and writes about what he thinks should be taught about sex in schools. Although he uses many facts and information to back up his argument, he should have made his argument differently. His main idea was that the only effective way of teaching sexual education in any school is to teach abstinence. His whole argument seems to be biased and too opinionated though. Limbaugh does make a valid argument about the fact that schools distributing condoms claim they are teaching “safe” sex, but in reality condoms are not actually 100% safe. He states the failure rate for condoms to be as high as 20%. He says the only true “safe” sex is no sex at all or abstinence. Although this is true, I do not think this means schools must only teach abstinence. I think students should be made aware of all the facts. They should be taught about sexually transmitted diseases.
