Print This Page Lab 4: Magnetic and Electric Fields Submit your assignment to the Dropbox located on the silver tab at the top of this page. iL A B O V E R V I E W Scenario/Summary Lab 4: This lab is graded and should be completed prior to taking the weekly quiz. The purpose of the lab is to familiarize the student with the major concepts of the course. The animations are Flash applets called Interactives, designed to enhance student learning outcomes by allowing students to explore concepts in a interactive fashion. Purpose This applet provides a three-dimensional animated view of the effects of a uniform magnetic field on a moving charge. The Magnetic Field interactive is designed to allow users to examine the effects of a magnetic field on a charged particle. Change the particle attributes and strength of the field to see how the magnetic field impacts the charged particle. Once the particle is fired, you can continue to change the mass and charge to further examine how these variables change the effects. Purpose The Electric Fields applet provides visual instruction on the electric field created by a configuration of point charges. Contours of the electric potential and the real-time motion of test charges can also be demonstrated. The Electric Fields interactive is designed to help users gain a conceptual understanding of how electric charges create electric fields and electric potentials. Add different charges, control the wall effects, and what information you see or select a preset configuration to understand specific phenomena of electric fields. Deliverables The lab report worksheet: Lab 4 Magnetic and Electric Fields , save this *.docx file to your hard drive as *initials.docx and then complete the worksheet before submitting it in the Dropbox.
