Biology 105C Fall 2007: Study Guide for Lab Exam 1 This is only a GUIDE. As such, it is only a starting place for studying. You are responsible for all material covered in lab. Use the materials in the lab book along with the materials and notes as material to study. Remember, the more active your studying, the more effective. Passive studying like reading and rereading over and over won’t help you to really KNOW the material. Lab 1 - Microscopy 1. Calculate the total magnification of a microscope given the magnification power of the objective. 2. Describe why it is important to know how large the field of view is while observing specimen. 3. Identify the parts of the microscope discussed in the lab. 4. Describe how a wet mount is made. 5. Identify plant and animal cells from a diagram or picture. Lab 2 – The Scientific Method 1. List the steps, in order, of the scientific method. 2. Compare hypothesis and theory. 3.
