Journal #13: Write up an analysis of a theme or issue we aren’t covering in the class: race, class, the military, literature, friendship, body image, nerds, the elderly, science, sports, etc. Good thing I got The Simpsons in the Classroom ; it made searching for a good topic much, much easier. In “Marge Gamer,” several themes were addressed, one in relation with another. The main theme would have to be the relationship of a mother and her son, and a father and his daughter. In the episode, Marge began learning about the computer and its uses (after being peer-pressured by the community). Based on my personal experiences, the majority of adults whom never been exposed to computers are then deeply addicted to it. This is the case with Marge. She stumbles on an MMORPG, called Eternal Realms , which is comparable to many of the RPG known today (i.e. World of Warcraft, Runescape, Diablo, etc.) which is set to a medieval renaissance time period. As she journals along the virtual world, she meets the evil Shadow Knight; comparable to many of the evil
