Evgeniy Bukatin Dr. Lee Templeton ENG 112-03 February 4, 2011 Journal 4 I believe that the purpose of this writing is to affect racial and class differentiation that still occurs in America and the rest of the world. As a writer, Ann duCille has a goal to inform people about the issues that negatively affect a modern society and turn these issues into opportunities for personal and social growth. Ann duCille is an African American writer that examines the ideology of production and consumption – how people contribute to the marketing of culture through the ways they produce and consume goods and ideas. The main claim that caused Ann duCille to publish this essay is an unconscious complexity of racial and class identity that occurred in the United States primarily during 1950-1970’s. At the time when Ann duCille was a child and played with Barbie, there were no any black dolls for African American kids to play with.
