HOW TECHNOLOGY ADVANCES IMPACT HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN THE UNITED STATES Introduction Human Resource Management (HRM), by definition, has the primary objective of managing human and the organizational systems. With the desire of enhancing the efficiency in management, HR managers attempt to take the best advantages of technology in their strategic planning. However, this was not a major concern until the first HR information system first developed in 1960s, since when business started applying computerized applications and procedures into the operation. As technology with its rapid development through time has become one of the most significant global changes, HR job will primarily be on the technology edge. Therefore, it is the fact that how largely and effectively technology is being applied can definitely be one of the crucial measurement criteria of HRM’s performance. This paper examines the tremendous impacts of technology advances on Human Resource Management in the United States. Firstly to begin this paper, I draw a big picture of the development of information technology especially in business environment with examples of new innovations and inventions. Next, I discusses the positive influence of these technology advances on HRM’s as well business firms’ performance. Existed and potential issues regarding the dark side of technology’s impacts on HRM are proposed in the next part. Finally, I conclude this paper with possible solutions to these issues above. Technology, features and trend Our lives are surrounded by the manifestations of technology. It is said that business firms nowadays are unable to survive without the aid of information technology. This information era witnesses the incredible non-stop growth of various technologies and computerized applications. Business firms have learnt to make the best use of technology from the telephone, typewriter, time clock, slow-processing computers, or calculators since years ago to the satellites, cables, notebooks, local area network and so on nowadays. Such changes in technological tools have driven the managers dramatically, and forced them to switch to the whole new strategic operation. Among thousands of different software and equipment purchased yesterday by HR managers, a majority of them are ready to be replaced by newer technology today. This is an implication of how managers struggle in the competitive race to possess the most updated technology which avoids them from being left behind by competitors. The list of all applications and tools can hardly be recorded since it has not been finished. However, they certainly have in common major features, which are briefly described below. Integration
