Secondary Data for Wal-Mart Secondary Data for Wal-Mart With so much data floating around it is very important to have reliable data. Many companies use secondary data which is data that has already been collected by others that can be utilized by their company. Secondary data can be used to get a new look on a problem or even be the solution for the problem. Secondary data can be divided into two parts (DISC.com, 2010). Qualitative data which include: biographies, personal letters, records, published materials, computer databases and others. Quantitative data which includes: market research, census, specimens as well as a host of other types. Once we determine the type of secondary data we will need, it generally becomes easy to locate the proper sources. For more than a decade, Wal-Mart has operated one of the largest commercial data warehouses in the world (Weier, 2007). They track sales of each item in each store to determine patterns. It allows them to make quick responses to poor sellers and good selling new items. They share some data with suppliers who use it to determine how
