On Wednesday June 3 rd I observed a trail in process at the Monroe County Court. Judge Alex Renzi ruled the process. I entered the court room at 2:00 pm and stayed for 3 hours. During this time attorney Scott Green was questioning a woman - a witness in the trail of a former Greece police officer Gary Pignato who was charged with coercion, bribery, official misconduct, and criminal trespass. The woman alleges that Gary Pignato influenced her decision to have sex with him in exchange for not reporting her probation’s violation. She says she was drunk and didn’t want to go to jail and her only option not to be arrested was to have sex with Pignato. She alleges that sergeant Pignato used vulnerable for the woman situation to assault her sexually against her true will. The woman who alleges she was victimized in the criminal case was one of the 12 whose claimed prosecutor Mr. Gargan wanted to use in Pignato's trial. Renzi ruled that, of the 12, only her allegations can be heard by the jury. After Pignato's arrest in November, the state police interviewed women who alleged they had been targeted by Pignato. Prosecutors wanted to use their claims to demonstrate Pignato's alleged tendency to pursue vulnerable women.
