| 3 To: Dr. Cashman From: Trish McGrew Date: June 2, 2010 Business Brief Recruiting and retaining great staff is top priority for any business to succeed. A business must recognize their most important resource, which are talented people who can and will continue to develop skills and want to increase their value to the organization and to the customers. As most organizations know, it is important to improve the quality of new hires, identify and retain top- quality employees, and developing those employees with high potential for growth. However, at the same time an organization should look at their underperforming staff and consider that maybe those individuals are in the wrong position. In addition, HR should determine whether the employee fully understands what is expected from him/her (Pfau-Kay, 2005). Recruiting Process Minwax, owned by Sherwin-Williams is a non-union organization, which uses internal bidding to fill vacant positions, but those people must meet the minimum requirement for the specific position.   Success is based on finding the right people for the right jobs. Internal bidding is good way of using the talent that the company already has available. In addition, according to Mrs. Schnautz, HRM at Minwax, a new summer internship program has been implemented. Mrs. Schnautz was responsible for meeting with all the managers to discuss the duties performed in each department. Once Mrs. Schnautz met with all the managers, she then worked with the
