Formal Organizations 2 A formal organization is an organized, large secondary group who strives to reach their goals more efficiently. They are less personal and much more goal oriented than other organizations (Macionis, 2006). In the last century there have many changes to formal organizations. One of the biggest of these changes has been with technology. Though formal organizations have evolved greatly due to technology over the past 100 years, there are still many more changes with technology to come over the next century. Unformatted text preview: did not have the same use of telephones and no use of computers so almost everything was done either through face to face communication, writing, or by mail. Organizations a century ago were usually close knit communities or families and they were more personable. These days people are hired by their experience or education more than by whom they are or who they know. Usually people with technological experience have a greater chance getting these jobs than someone without the proper education or experience.
