Optimism and Health 2 The first article that I found is about physical health and optimism. In this article it says that the positive effects of optimism on physical health are obvious. However; it is not easy to find out exactly what makes someone an optimist or a pessimist. A study was done on 8673 young adults and basically the people who had the most optimism in life experiences or towards life events were people who had parents who planned on getting pregnant, had prior achievements in school, a work history, and vocational education. Others who were also extremely optimistic were those who had a comfortable financial stability and also those who were married (Ek, Elten, Remes, and Sovio, 2004). The second article I have chosen is about psychological health and optimism. A study was also done but this time on freshman college students. The study was done before they started their classes and then done again after or towards the end of their first year. The students who were more optimistic about life and their college degrees and courses ended
