GRADING RUBRIC for essays written at home Procedure Printout and digital copy submitted on time? Word limit respected? (If over, stop reading at limit and assign a grade based on that. If under, even if way under, just assign a grade based on what they wrote). Basics Answers the question: Addressed all topics in essay question Mastery: Demonstrates mastery of all relevant parts of the assigned text Analysis Analysis/thought: Shows thought/analysis; goes beyond summary (Such as coming up with arguments then using evidence to support and deepen them, fleshing out the deeper meaning of evidence, combining evidence from different places, noting what is omitted and its meaning, giving “big picture” analysis that covers many pieces of evidence, or otherwise demonstrates relevant thought about the text and the essay question.) Accuracy: Accurately interprets the evidence Complexity: Captures the full complexity of the evidence. Avoids over-simplification. Breadth: Covers a good range of topics to answer the essay question
