Actual Paper Format Abstract A summary of the whole paper: what did you  do, why did you do it, how did you do it, what  did you get, and what does it mean Most journals set a limit on this – think no  more than 250 words

Introduction – Provide context Introduce the topic: why is the topic  important? Where is this found in nature and what is  interesting about it? Write in present tense – you are presenting  what is currently known about the topic and  then transitioning into your question Actual Paper Format Many Scientists write this section last!

Materials and Methods What did you do EXACTLY? Include usage of scientific terminology: independent  and dependent variables, control, constants Think of every detail: Was there anything that could  have impacted your results? A fellow Scientist should be able to replicate your  results if they follow your methods! Actual Paper Format Materials and Methods must be written in PAST tense!!  You will lose  points if this section is not in past tense!
