Deliverable 6 Linguistic Diversity in Early Childhood Age Group: 4 years – 6 years Centers are filled with families from all over the world, which consist of many cultures. This is where linguistic diversity occurs. Even if to families are Hispanic, it doesn’t mean they speak the same. To say “Come here”, one family could say “Ven aca” while the others says “Veni aqui”. Both are correct but each belonging to a different Hispanic cultural, which happens with every culture, because they all have their own way of saying and pronouncing words or phrases. According to the book “Welcoming Linguistic Diversity in Early Childhood Classrooms : Learning From International Schools”, a child won’t fully develop first language until the age of five, this is part of the first- language challenge ( Welcoming Linguistic , 2011, p. x ). Naeyc has an article named Responding to Linguistic and Cultural Diversity Recommendations for Effective Early Childhood Education , which has a lot information that can help deal with this in the class room.
