Know the names and symbols for the first 38 elements (hydrogen through strontium).You will always have a periodic table to use. Also know the following elements: 47, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 78, 79, 80, 82, 84, 85, 86, 88, 92, and 94. 2. Know the names and chemical formulas for the following ions: CN NO 2 SO 3 2– PO 3 3– ClO 2 NH 4 + Hg 2 2+ HCO 3 CrO 4 2– cyanide ion nitrite ion sulfite on phosphite ion chlorite ion ammonium ion mercury (I) ion bicarbonate ion chromate ion 3. Name the three types of subatomic particles in an atom; give their masses (in amu's), relative charges, and location. 4. Determine the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons in a given element or ion. 5. Know that isotopes of a given element have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. 6.
