There are many key players in the Canadian
government that have very significant roles in
running our country
Prime Minister
The Prime Minister has 3 roles:
Leader of the nation
Leader of his/her political party
Head of the Federal Government
As leader of the
Nation
Speaks on behalf of all
Canadians internationally
Addresses citizens on issues of
national importance
Works with Premiers to make
changes to benefit Canadians
As leader of his/her
political party
Spokesperson for that party
Leads the
caucus
(the group of
government members from his/her
own party)
As Head of the Federal
Government
Recommends new judges and senators
Asks Governor General to call elections every 4
years
Chooses a cabinet and runs cabinet meetings
Premier
Leader of the province
Asks Lt Governor General to call
elections and names judges (at the
provincial level)
Addresses citizens of the province
and works with other premiers and
the Federal government to defend
the provinces interests
Chooses cabinet members to direct
provincial affairs
