3/15/11 The structure of the Federal Court The Federal Court system is broken into 3 levels: The Supreme Court Ø Highest court in the Federal Court system. Ø Hears appeals from state courts as well as federal courts Ø Made up of 9 Jusitices The Courts of Appeal Ø No original jurisdiction with the court system, main purpose is appellate. Ø Held in 12 different regions The District Courts Ø Holds 94 judicial districts in 50 states

The origin of the Supreme Court The Supreme Court was organized by the Chief Justice. The US Supreme Court is the only court system to be established by the U.S. Constitution.
