Higher Degree of probability that conclusion follows from the premises makes inductive argument stronger Criteria for evaluating the strength of an argument from an analogy 1. Number of entities o larger number of entities, strong the argument 2. Variety of Instances o more dissimilar the instances mentioned only in the premises of the analogical argument, the stronger the argument 3. Number of similarities between the previous instances eluded to in premises and the anticipated instances in the conclusion o greater number of respects in which the entity in the conclusion is similar to the entities in the premises, the more probable the conclusion 4. Relevance of the similarities o highly relevant factor makes it stronger than many irrelevant factors 5. Disanalogy o different than original argument is based 6. Modesty of the Conclusion relative to the premises o I like the first 10, I’ll like the next 1,000 BAD o Could also be qualitative difference o Exam: Nothing about analogies (last exam)
