Nicole Barbour Political Science 202 John Lucas 2/10/10 The Foundation of Our Nation The foundation of the United States was established by our Founding Fathers whose original intentions have been up for much debate. Whether or not our nation is or was set up to be a Christian country has fueled arguments for both sides. The relationship between religion and government often brings disputes about actions that have been taken and if they are constitutional or not. Thomas J. Billitteri discusses the supporters for religion in government as well as those opposed and deny that our nation was ever set up on the basis of the Christian religion. While examining if our country was created on religious principles or not, Billitteri also looks at how religion and politics affect lives today and the influence it has on government. The main point of the article is if our country is set up on Christian beliefs and the influence it has had on our nation’s government. Billitteri gives examples of some who would argue that our Constitution does have evidence of Christian values with the words and phrases
