Nicole Barbour 2/22/10 John Lucas Extra Credit A Brief History of Afghanistan Afghanistan is a territory that has a lot of history and has been the topic of much discussion over the past few years. The presentation was made by Bill McMeekin who was in Afghanistan in the 1970’s. At the beginning of the presentation there were photos shown of the land and people, which McMeekin remarked that those photos could have been taken thirty years ago, two hundred years ago, or yesterday and they would have looked the same. At the beginning there were traditional Afghan music playing with the use of lots of drums. When McMeekin was there he taught in a school that was located on a camp that built a dam, and all the textbooks were in English so they had to learn how to read and speak English. There are four basic ethnic groups that make up the population of Afghanistan and they are all separate; however, if they joined together they could be quite powerful.
