Fidati 1 Hannah Fidati Perspectives Reflection #4 14 April 2010 Opportunity and Privilege “Where liberty dwells, this is my country,” (thinkexist.com 1) quoted by Benjamin Franklin. America, the land of the free and home of the brave this is my country, the prestigious United States of America. However, unlike Benjamin Franklin, I have grown to be less patriotic and grateful of my country over the years. Being a U.S citizen all of my life, I have come to depreciate the rare advantages provided to me every day, such as freedom, justice and education. Often times, U.S citizens are stereotyped as ignorant, and I would have to agree. I have the privilege of living in a land of freedom and hope, yet I tend to ignore the advantages I am blessed with. It was not until I came into Perspectives class one day and heard multiple stories from different immigrants about how they moved to the U.S and the struggles they pertained, that I opened my eyes to see how much of a blessing it is to be a U.S citizen.
