History Notes (Week 2) 1607- JAMESTOWN Tobacco is an example of Mercantilism. o Philosophy regarding political economy. 1660- Navigation Acts (Must use British Ports) This way of Mercantilism was also attempted by the French and Spanish. o Spanish was the weakest of the 3 nations. English begin to take over areas of the U.S. owned by other nations (Swedish, Spanish) o English claims more land in order to form more colonies. 1649- (Maryland) Toleration Acts- Accepting (tolerating) other Religions By 1650 Quakers enter Massachusetts- Passionate to religion (would shake from emotion) o Quakers would have ears cut off in order to “Label” them. 1733- Colony of Georgia was created as a buffer colony between Florida (Spanish) and English Coast line. Anabaptists were in Rhode Island. 1750- o 1.2 million People living under British rule in America. o 75,000 people living under French rule in America. o
