July 14, 1843 Today was just another day on the trail, except today we saw a few Indians. All they did was watch us during lunch and then they disappeared. We traveled very far today, because of nothing on the trail. We passed out of Missouri and into a very blank area. Our food supply is depleting, and we need to watch our eating. Julie is getting very sick and I hope she can last until we get to Oregon. Tomorrow we get back on our 8 month journey to get to Oregon for fresh land and new opportunities. July 21, 1843 Today we hit disaster. Mom became ill, Indians attacked last night, and one of our wagon wheels broke. Today we didn’t travel very far because of all of this bad luck, and I can only hope that tomorrow will be better. Only one good thing came out of today, Julie was better. She had recovered from her illness. Dad had to take care of mom and couldn’t drive too much today, so we could only go so far, since we had to wait for him. One of our oxen also hurt his leg, which just added to our bad day. I can only hope that tomorrow is better.
