Vascular Spasm (A Physical Response) • It occurs as a result of vasoconstriction • Vasoconstriction leads to ↓ in blood flow • Reduces blood loss but does not stop bleeding but very important because it ↓ blood loss 2. Formation of a Platelet Plug – Forms around site of vessel damage, thereby decreases blood loss – Platelets are the chief players in the formation of this plug – In platelet plug formation, the key protein is von Willebrand factor (vWf)). 2. Platelet Plug Formation Releases Vasoconstrictors- Serotonin- Epinephrine Role of Arachidonic Acid in Platelet Aggregation Healthy Endothelial Cells Arachidonic Acid Prostacyclin (Prostaglandin I 2 ) Inhibits Platelet Aggregation Adhered Platelets Arachidonic Acid Thromboxane A 2 Stimulates Platelet Aggregation and Secretions Blood Vessel Damage...
