Emily Javan WMS 50 Julia Morales Section 6 Question 2 Europe and the US used western medicine to establish their power and legitimacy by de- monizing other forms of medicine and therefore the nations that practiced these other forms, such as magic and midwives. Western science took over as the objective and intelligent way to observe the world, and manipulate all things in it. This allowed those leading the field, white western world men, to take control of all who did not meet up to their standard of objective for- ward thinking, e.g. women and men of any other color. Western medicine gave rise to eugenists, who wanted to control population to preserve race, and many other people wanted to control so- ciety through the power of reproduction. The intelligence and abilities of midwives were turned into something dangerous and evil by doctors; they were nearly outlawed by the 1930s. This idea prevailed through men who saw doctors as “professionals” and “experts”, even though their

Colonizers quickly became the leaders of the free world by using their intelligence and medicine to implant settlements into new nations. African and Native American races were used for all their resources, leaving them with nothing, but ravage land and dying people. Colonized women were subjected to some of the worst torture, because they fueled the slave industry by giving birth to future generations of slaves along with having to preform the same labor intensive work as men. Western medicine also told these wo-men that the way they had been having children for years was wrong, and they did not have the power to choose what was best....
