LECTURE 3 NC had 5 delegates- one guy in particular Hewe Williamson o In Philadelphia, he proposed the system of impeachment (by the house, and then tried by the senate) o Concept of 2/3 majority of both houses to override presidential veto o Introduced the idea of a 6 year term for US senators (house of rep serve 2 year) NC Guys to sign constitution: Williamson, Blount, Spaight Constitution written up, needs to be ratified by the states (9/13 states) States will hold conventions, elect delegates to go to conventions to represent the people on whether or not to ratify the Constitution o Some states/people don’t want to ratify it because they don’t want a strong central government Federalists: voters who supported ratification of Constitution Believed in a strong national government Largely came from the east Usually wealthy -these 2 groups had some physical violence Anti-Federalits: States rights, no strong central government Didn’t want to ratify constitution Small farmers, back country people Worried about taxes
