SYLLABUS Biology 181R (MCB/BIOC/ECOL/MIC 181) Fall 2010 LECTURE SECTIONS 5 AND 6H MWF 3 PM Dr. Brian Larkins http://www.d2l.arizona.edu About the Course: Welcome to the introductory biology course at the University of Arizona. The course is designed as an introductory level experience for students in one of the biology majors and for students in related disciplines (e.g. various agricultural majors, pre-pharmacy, pre-nursing, and pre-medicine). Our goal, as you will see from the text and topic schedule, is to introduce you to modern concepts in the field of biology. The first semester cover concepts in cell and molecular biology and the second semester emphasizes multicellular organisms, ecosystems, natural selection and evolution. Biology 181R (MCB/BIOC/ECOL/MIC 181R) is a three unit lecture (four units for Honors). There are six lecture sections and six corresponding Honors sections. You are registered in Lecture Section 5 or Honors Section 6H. The syllabus and lecture materials for this section are available on the web at http://www.d2l.arizona.edu . Sections 5 and 6H meet together Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 3:00 – 3:50 PM in PAS 201. The honors section (6H) also meets Thursday nights from 7:00-7:50 PM with Dr. Ravi Palavinelu in César Chávez Room 303. Students who wish to register for the Honors section (6H) and have not already done so should contact the course coordinator, Ms. Asya Roberts, at 621-9267. The laboratory experience for introductory biology is a separate, one unit course (181L). Students needing both lecture and laboratory must eventually take 181R and 181L.
