Allele Genetic trait or character that is expressed Variation of a gene located at a specific location on a chromosome Two alleles for each trait (paternal and maternal alleles) The alleles may be the same (homozygous) or different (heterozygous) A population or species of organisms typically includes multiple alleles at each locus among various individuals Can be dominant or recessive Ex: allele for black colour, white colour, blood type, etc Allele frequencies The proportion of all copies of a gene that is made up of a particular gene variant (allele) In other words, it is the number of copies of a particular allele divided by the number of copies of all alleles at the genetic place (locus) in a population Allopolyploidy Having two or more complete sets of chromosomes derived from different species Autopolypoloidy An organism having more than two sets of chromosomes, all of which were derived from the same sepecies
