1 Moore Ryan Moore Dr. Moore ENG 113 (J) 8 October 2019 Reality Sinks In Within the short story, Don’t Take Your Guns to Town , Danny Gardner conveys peace and violence in modern day laymen terms. Johnny Cash, the American singer, composed a song to emphasize the issues within the world today. His message attempts to change the world, one choice at a time. The story is set within Indiana in Jenny’s apartment, along with the neighborhood of Englewood in Chicago, Illinois. Within the story, the setting shifts to a car, followed by a gun show, all within the means of present-day. Jenny, the apartment owner, is a normal citizen whom has made poor decisions around friends. Danny Gardner, the crime fiction author, conveys the main ideas within the end of childhood, life altering decisions, and sequential consequences. From these ideas, the characters can exude their internal and external conflicts in modern day form. With all of the characters being teenagers and young adults, the colorful language explains their potential educational background. The story characters of Jenny, Todd, Rel, and Ant are considered focal points of interest throughout the piece. As the story progresses, the change in tone and mood shifts from calm to partly frantic. Because of the story’s modern touch, Gardner fulfills the true colors of Chicago’s young people. From the setup of the story, multiple essential themes are present, elaborating on the overall character development. As the story transpires, themes of brotherhood, responsibility, accountability, survival of the fittest, and the death of innocence become apparent. Brotherhood
