Quiz 10 Problems This quiz is based on the material in Week 12 Buried gas pipeline is subject to corrosion which leads to early replacement and high cost. In an attempt to reduce corrosion, a new coating is investigated. To measure corrosion, a section of pipe is coated, weighed and then buried for one year. The pipe is then dug up, cleaned and reweighed. The weight loss (1000*% change in weight) is a measure of the corrosion that has occurred. In an investigation, 20 sections of steel pipe are selected from a single batch of pipe. . At random, 10 sections are coated with the new coating and the other 10 with the original coating. Then two sections, one with each treatment, are buried together. Each pair is buried in a different environment chosen to match the varying conditions under which the pipe is used. After one year, the sections are recovered and the corrosion is measured. The data are Pair Standard coating New Coating Difference 1 3.2 2.1 1.1 2 1.4 1.2 0.2 3 4.6 3.9 0.7 4 6.8 5.2
