Lauria 1 Final Paper Jimmy Lauria Dr. Tonia Edwards 16 November 2010 American Pie : The Prize Possession of Teen Comedies By far the most popular and referenced movie of its kind, American Pie still dominates the charts as one of the all time biggest blockbusters for teen comedy films. The use of simplistic characters and predictable, yet intriguing situations makes American Pie known as the “go to” film of this genre. The movie follows the classic plot involving a group of high school guys trying to pick up girls and while failing at first, succeed in the end. While these plot lines are common in teen comedies, American Pie fits into another category of this genre.Comedy contains various sub-genres to appeal to a variety of audiences. Over time, comedy has become less censored; leading to the creation of “gross out” comedy. This sub-genre aims to surprise the audience with material that may seem controversial. Some of the key elements in this sub-genre include vulgar language and crude humor, such as jokes that usually pertain to sex and bodily functions. Other elements may include an excessive use of drugs, alcohol, and nudity. By using a
