1. The government has three major purposes. One of these is to promote equality in different situations and instances. The first type is political equality. This equality is meant to give everyone a vote and voice since we live in a democracy. Each vote is considered equal and everyone has the same guidelines to gaining voting rights. Age, race and citizenship are examples of the guidelines used to monitor voting. The second type of equality is social equality. This means equality in wealth, status and education. This is meant to create equality no matter how much a citizen makes in a year or the kind of personal connections he or she may have. Certain individuals may have access to those in high status rankings or of importance; thus, they may benefit from the connections and accessibility to materials. The third type of equality is equality of opportunity. Everyone has the right to have the same chances presented to him; for example, public education and transportation.
