To what extent does participation in high school sports contribute to male violence? Do males’ peers have an impact on the level of violence the male displays? Does the type of sport played have an impact on the level of violence displayed? 2. Kreager argues that understanding the relationship between sports and violence in the United States is of great significance to the social world. Contact sports, such as football, are popular pastimes for most of the nation. This study explores the beginning effects of male contact sports. Society tends to accept sports as beneficial both physically and culturally while Kreager argues that this may not be the case. This study examines the relationship between peers playing contact sports together. Prior to this study, society might have assumed that teams build each other up while creating lasting friendships and a brotherhood. The findings in this study suggest that peers that play contact sports encourage higher rates of violence. 3. The theories that Kreager relies on to hypothesize the relationship between sports and violence
