Music 125 – History of Rock Music Timothy Jones 1/26/11 Early Blues -African rhythm, melody and song structure -Harmonic and chord elements come from European, mostly religious, music. -Emancipation, 1863 Blues performed on street corners, in bars juke joints, on trains and plantations and in brothels Rambling (traveling) bluesmen spread the blues beyond the Delta region.
