1 Eric Schneck Study Guide 14 Reading: Bb slidewshow “Register” Before Reading 1. Review your most recent writing: what makes the cover letter more formal than the persuasive email? The persuasive email can be more informal. I know my boss and I am asking for something, whereas in the cover letter I am very formal and trying to present myself in the best way possible. 2. Read the proposal in the group project folder. Is the language in that document noticeably different from your cover letter or bad news letter? How? It is strictly informative. We know that they are trying to make their point that this would be a good opportunity and that they seem to have all the bases covered that could potentially be questions or problems. While Reading 1. Read the Register slideshow. a. What determines the register you use? The situation one finds themselves in. b. How would you define register (do not simply repeat the slideshow)? The words you use and how you say them.
