For my current event article, I chose “DJ AM's death caused by drug overdose, medical examiner says,” By Chris Lee. I chose this article because it was a tragic accident. Some people do not know that DJ AM, a.k.a. Adam Goldstein, was involved in a horrific plane crash just a year prior in which he and a friend were the only survivors. You would think after something as life changing as surviving a plane crash, you would not take your life for granted however, the effects of drugs have a more powerful affect on one’s life. It was no secret that Goldstein was a drug addict, he had been caught with cocaine numerous times and sent to rehab time and time again. In 1998, Adam decided that he needed to make a change for the better after he put “a .22-caliber pistol in his mouth and pulled the trigger but survived because the gun jammed,” (Lee, 2009). The very last time he exited rehab, ten years ago, everyone thought he was actually done with the addiction but after the plane crash he suffered horrible post traumatic stress disorder and “the guilt of starting up again after ten years of sobriety was too much for him to handle,” (Lee, 2009). What I want people to notice from this article is that no matter how strong willed a person you are, drugs are more powerful than anyone
