Objective: To compute the electric field caused by point charges in a one dimensional and two dimensional setting. Theory: For the given charges, to find the electric field strength acting on them, just use vector summation to find it. Procedures: Part I: Part I of the experiment required no tools except the computer which was used to calculate the electric field of point charges through Matlab. First, we input the value for permittivity of free space Ε 0 which also corresponded to the K constant K=1/(4π Ε 0 ). Then we input the given charges of Q 1 and Q 2 of each point charge. Next we input the range, X, which the electric field would be calculated. Afterwards, we input equations which would calculate the electronic field from charge Q 1 and charge Q 2 separately which were named E 1 and E 2 respectively. Then we input E total which is the magnitude of the electric field. Then finally we graphed the plot of the electric field.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
