Parable of the Mustard Seed- a. “kingdom”, “is like a grain of mustard seed”, “birds of the air”, “ nests”- same in all three Evidence 1. Verbatim/near verbatim between the three gospels: Matt, Mark and Luke 2. Jesus speaks in Aramaic, Gospels were written in Greek 3. Some kind of relationship between these three gospel writers- probably literary level The Double Tradition 1. Parable of the Leaven- a. All the same except “kingdom of heaven” vs “kingdom of God” 2. Matthew and Luke but not in Mark a. Implies that Matthew and Luke may have that they are drawing on Evidence 1. Verbatim and Near Verbatim agreement b/t Matthew and Luke 2. Material is unique to each Gospel 3. It was okay to “plagiarize” because there was no notion of intellectual properties in ancient times Possible Solutions 1. Two Source Hypothesis (73%) a.
