Lecture 14 3/2/11 HIS 208 Spate of legislation on factory regulations Due to the growing number of workers who could vote In Germany, the SPD was growing in popularity It was starting to cause some angst for the right that was currently in power, Bismarck The Questionnaire Written by Carl Marx Published in 1880 in the Revue Socialiste in France Device used to educate and motivate the working man To adopt a confrontational persona, to engage in class warfare Use the power of the vote and representation in gov’t to push an agenda Was filled with questions that would lead the worker to realize the horrible working conditions and the horrible compensation for the work Bismarck By the 1880s Germany’s industry was booming, catching up with and passing that of England Germany has some great ambitions It had been unified into one state by Bismarck Imperialize and colonize Africa Expand its borders by aggressively taking over land from neighbors Bismarck was called the Blood and Iron Chancellor Was quite willing to go to war and spill blood
