Unformatted text preview: 540:304 Manufacturing Processes Laboratory Spring 2010 Laboratory Report 05 Basic Machining Operations By Farrah Vijayan Steven Aponte Ramone Barnes Gina Davis Allanah Miller March 26, 2011 Abstract The objective of this lab was to familiarize students with various machining operations. Upon completion of the two weeks, students machined two separate parts using the lathe and milling machine. Students were provided with plans and the exact dimensions of each part, allowing them to cut the parts appropriately. The lab technician demonstrated how to execute each process, properly instructing students in the operation of the various controls of each machine. After completing each part, students developed operational charts for each of the machined parts. Furthermore, they calculated different processing times for the operation based on different parameters used to cut the part. Understanding these concepts is integral to the operation of these machines, assuring high precision cuts are made each time.
