Trisha James 3/3/2011 English 1102M Ms. Chappell Media Vs. Text: Joel Chandler Harris Stories The stories of Joel Chandler Harris are stories of oral folklore that came from black people of the southern United States; adapted and written in southern slave dialect. “Legends of the Old Plantation” are different stories told by slaves that were recorded by Joel Chandler Harris. Joel Chandler Harris wrote down the stories exactly how he heard them; he wanted the reader to be able to read the country southern accent that was used to tell these stories. The way the dialogue in these stories are written makes it very hard to comprehend easily rather than if it it was written in regular English. When the stories were adapted into a media form, such as a movie, it was much easier to comprehend and enjoy when visual, and music was incorporated. The multimedia aspect enhances the stories and makes the story a pleasure instead of a burden.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
