I, Trisha Chizimbienu DeWitt James was born on May 28th, 1992 in the deep southern city of Albany, Ga to a Nigerian mother and Trinidadian father. As a U.S. Marine brat, I moved to various cities around the south. I finally moved to Atlanta, Georgia to enroll in the prestigious Atlanta International School (AIS) when I was 8 years old. Even though I am multicultural myself, AIS aided to expose me to various cultures through different multicultural readings. I have always had an interest in languages, hence, the reason I have been speaking French since the age of 9. In AIS, students are required to take the International Baccalaureate curriculum. Unformatted text preview: English Higher Level Course, where we studied stories such as the short stories of Anton Chekov, which is based on the Russian background of the author, Midaq Alley by Naguib Mahfouz, based on a Middle Eastern background, and the short stories of Flannery O'Connor, just to name a few. I have written various essays ranging from compare and contrast essays, to research papers. I have also studied different themes of Shakespeare in plays such as Othello . In high school, I initially came into English with an interest in different cultures in my readings, and eventually I developed a liking for plays and the study of their different themes and how they correlate with one another....
