Nakul Shah November 28, 2010 Kotef and Amir explore the feminist perspective on an ongoing crisis in the West Bank. Israeli occupation of parts of Palestine has sparked the emergence of checkpoints throughout the region, similar to border patrol which would ordinarily exist between two sovereign states. However in the West Bank, Israeli armed guards occupy Palestinian territory and commit humanitarian crimes on a daily basis. The Checkpoint Watch (CPW) has been established by Israeli women to oppose Israeli occupation, protest at checkpoints, and ensure humane treatment of Palestinians passing through. The feminism involved in this movement exists not only due to the fact that the organization is strictly only women, but also in the nature of the crimes committed by checkpoint officials. The harrowing tale of a woman in laboring attempting to pass through a checkpoint en route to a hospital, but having to instead give birth in the dirt “like an animal” exposes the masculinity of Israeli militarism and the femininity of Palestinian
