The “Lub-Dup” Sounds of the cardiac cycle that are  created by the heart valves slamming  shut. Lub – As the ventricles begin to contract,  pressure in them rises above the pressure  in the atria, so the AV valves close. Dup – As the ventricles relax, high  pressure in aorta and pulmonary artery  closes the aortic and pulmonary valves.
