MUSIC 113 (MW 5, TTH 4)         Sarah Inouye Basic Piano Skills Basic Piano Skills, Music 113 is a course designed for adults who have never learned how to  play the piano, or who have taken lessons in the past but want a new start and/or review.   The  course focuses on developing skills in the following areas: how to read music, coordination and  technique, harmonizing melodies, improvising, ensemble playing and basic concepts of music  theory.  The course is supported by an interactive CD that is included in the text and an  interactive website at .  What follows below is a summary of  information on the course and the class schedule.  We hope this course will be the beginning of  many rewarding hours spent at the piano. Course Requirements 1. Play the assigned pieces and exercises fluently and without  hesitation.  2. Know all the terms and symbols and understand the related theory. 3. Missed tests will not be made up except in the case of an emergency. 4. Complete all assignments and test.  Missed assignments and tests cannot be  made up except in the case of illness or an emergency.  In such cases, tests will  be made up or waived at the discretions of the instructor.  Text Beginning Piano Techniques,  R. Anderson, BYU Bookstore, Course Outcomes As a result of completing this class, students should be able to do the following assuming they  have completed all assignments as explained. 1.
