Prompt: Evaluate the extent to which transportation innovation contributed to American national unity in the period from 1800 to 1860.Prior to the innovation of transportation in the 1800’s there wasn’t really ways of getting around or exploring new terrain. It would take days to get to one’s desired destination being able to only travel by horseback and rivers. This would delay communications significantly and would put states behind. With a new century arising, naturally advancements in transportation services took place. The new transportation innovation heavily contributed to national unity in the period of 1800-1860 because it would bring in new populations and influence new business opportunities. Although transportation was still long, it cut down time significantly and opened up the United States to new terrain.With new transportation techniques there was a high usage of locomotive and steamboats. Withthat in mid people made worthwhile of it and would climb onto it. Naturally immigrants would take advantage of it and come to the States. The population would increase and begin to climb and start to create ties with the people that are already there.
