CS 537 Lab#2 Experiment: Build A Simple File Transfer Service Purpose To learn the basics of file transfer and how to build a client and a server that interoperate. Background Reading And Preparation Refer to the program structure at the end of this document and the client.c and server.c sample programs. Overview Build a file transfer service that consists of a client and server. Have the server export a file from the computer on which it runs (i.e., make them available for download), and have the client obtain a file on demand. That is, arrange to have the client send a file name for the server to respond by sending the file. Procedure Steps and Details (checkmark as each is completed) 1. Specify the exact details of the file transfer protocol, including the line terminator. 2. Consult the example programs in the Lab3 directory to see what arguments the client and server programs will need, and specify the arguments you will use. 3. Write, compile, and link a file transfer server, ftserve , that waits for a connection, receives a file name, opens the named file, sends the file contents back over the connection, and then sends an end-of-file. Have the server exit after sending one file. 4.
